THEY MAKE A DIFFERENCE – True stories of TRICHY students who took “the Road less traveled “

Humans have a tendency to take the beaten path. A lawyer’s son pursues Law, a doctor’s son pursues Medicine, CA is a family profession and rest of them including first generation learners take up Engineering.
Can you solve the problems of the future using the tools of the past? How many of us have the courage to listen to our inner voice – “I think I am” and create your own destiny.
How many of us can take the “Road less traveled “? We know that Trichy is well known for mundane, moronish,  dumb and thoroughly “in the box” lifestyle. But sometimes here and there we have flashes of brilliance. A kind of antimatter  or subatomic particle that does not follow the laws of nature.
We are going to be a conduit for bringing out the stories of these heroes or mavericks who have chiseled themselves out, rather than being an instrument in someone else’s hands.
So join us in this journey towards the discovery of the unknown. Every week we will unravel stories of hero’s.  We urge you, your family and your inner circle to keep a track of these stories, so that these ripples could create a tsunami of difference to our very own land ‘Trichy’.

If you want something in your life you’ve never had, you’ll have to do something you’ve never done.

Albert Einstein once quoted – “Insanity is doing the same things again and again and expecting different results.”

No matter how hard we try, change is inevitable. Someone once said – if we are not moving forward, we are going backwards. One cannot remain in the same place. In my personal experience, it is really heart-rending to watch our older generation like our parents not knowing anything about how fast the world is moving. There is a massive shift happening and i don’t think i am fully prepared for it.

When i was in school, the only mode of learning was books, teachers and exams. Today my daughter is of the opinion that she can learn everything at home with the help of internet. This was unimaginable a few years ago. What was inconceivable then, is becoming a reality now.

Compaq, Standard Oil, Arthur Anderson and Sony Ericson just to name a few – these world famous companies no longer exist.

Nokia Case Study:

Something to ponder: During the press conference to announce NOKIA being acquired by Microsoft, Nokia CEO ended his speech saying this “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost”. Upon saying that, all his management team, himself included, teared sadly. Nokia has been a respectable company. They didn’t do anything wrong in their business, however, the world changed too fast. Their opponents were too powerful. They missed out on learning, they missed out on changing, and thus they lost the opportunity at hand to make it big. Not only did they miss the opportunity to earn big money, they lost their chance of survival.

The message of this story is, if you don’t change, you shall be removed from the competition. It’s not wrong if you don’t want to learn new things. However, if your thoughts and mindset cannot catch up with time, you will be eliminated.

1. The advantage you have yesterday, will be replaced by the trends of tomorrow. You don’t have to do anything wrong, as long as your competitors catch the wave and do it RIGHT, you can lose out and fail.

  1. To change and improve yourself is giving yourself a second chance. To be forced by others to change, is like being discarded. Those who refuse to learn & improve, will definitely one day become redundant & not relevant to the industry. They will learn the lesson in a hard & expensive way.

The 99 Club – are you a member too ?

Hi friends,

I am not against success or achievement. Once someone told me “I is rich” is better than “I am poor”. What keeps me bemused is the hoarding mentality of human beings. Isn’t one car, one phone, one t.v or one house enough for a happy living. Isn’t that how our parents and grandparents lived. I came across this thought provoking story today which kindled my thoughts. Hope it does the same to you – by Savitri

The 99 Club – Once upon a time, there lived a King who, despite his luxurious lifestyle, was not happy at all.

One day, the King came upon a servant who was singing happily while he worked. This fascinated the King; Why was he, the Supreme Ruler of the Land, unhappy and gloomy, while a lowly servant had so much joy?

The King asked the servant, ‘Why are you so happy?’

The man replied, ‘Your Majesty, I am nothing but a servant, but my family and I don’t need too much – just a roof over our heads and warm food to fill our tummies.’

The king sought the advice of his most trusted advisor. After hearing the story, the advisor said, ‘Your Majesty, the servant has not yet joined “The 99 Club”.’

‘The 99 Club? And what is that?’ the King inquired.

The advisor replied, ‘To truly know what The 99 Club is, just place 99 Gold coins in a bag and leave it at this servant’s doorstep.’

When the servant saw the bag, he let out a great shout of joy… so many gold coins. He began to count them. After several counts, he was at last convinced that there were only 99 coins.

He wondered, ‘What could’ve happened to that last gold coin? Surely, no one would leave 99 coins!’

He looked everywhere, but that final coin was elusive. Finally he decided that he was going to work harder than ever to earn that 100th gold coin.

From that day, the servant was a changed man. He was overworked, grumpy, and blamed his family for not helping him make that 100th gold coin.

And he had stopped singing while he worked.

Witnessing this drastic transformation, the King was puzzled. The advisor said, ‘Your Majesty, the servant has now officially joined The 99 Club.’

He continued, ‘The 99 Club is a name given to those people who have enough to be happy but are never content, because they’re always wanting that extra 1, saying to themselves:

“Let me get that one final thing and then I will be happy for life.”

We can be happy with very little in our lives, but the minute we’re given something bigger and better, we want more …and even more! We lose our sleep, our happiness, as the price for our growing needs and desires.

That’s “The 99 Club”…

Nice Story : A man went to Guruji and asked, “What’s the value of life?” Guruji gave him one stone and said, “Find out the value of this stone, but don’t sell it.” The man took the stone to an Orange Seller and asked him what its cost would be. The Orange Seller saw the shiny stone and said, “You ca take 12 oranges and give me the stone.” The man apologized and said that the guru has asked him not to sell it. He went ahead and found a vegetable seller. “What could be the value of this stone?” he asked the vegetable seller. The seller saw the shiny stone and said, “Take one sack of potatoes and give me the stone.” The man again apologized and said he can’t sell it. Further ahead, he went into a jewelery shop and asked the value of the stone. The jeweler saw the stone under a lens and said, “I’ll give you 50 Lakhs for this stone.” When the man shook his head, the jeweler said, “Alright, alright, take 2 crores, but give me the stone.” The man explained that he can’t sell the stone. Further ahead, the man saw a precious stone’s shop and asked the seller the value of this stone. When the precious stone’s seller saw the big ruby, he lay down a red cloth and put the ruby on it. Then he walked in circles around the ruby and bent down and touched his head in front of the ruby. “From where did you bring this priceless ruby from?” he asked. “Even if I sell the whole world, and my life, I won’t be able to purchase this priceless stone. Stunned and confused, the man returned to the guru and told him what had happened. “Now tell me what is the value of life, guru ji?” Guru said, “The answers you got from the Orange Seller, the Vegetable Seller, the Jeweler & the Precious Stone’s Seller explain the value of our life… You may be a precious stone, even priceless, but people will value you based on their financial status, their level of information, their belief in you, their motive behind entertaining you, their ambition, and their risk taking ability. But don’t fear, you will surely find someone who will discern your true value.” Therefore Respect yourself, You are Unique. No one is like you.
